Facebook Lite, the lighter version of Facebook, which was designed for people having poor internet access to internet has been shut down by facebook.
The social networking hub, facebook Lite, was launched just seven months ago. Touted as bare-bones version of the chock-a-block Facebook site, Lite catered to the needs of people with slow internet connections (remember 56 KBPS modems) who generally found the full-sized Facebook page too heavy.

The Lite site offered all the standard features such as write on Walls, browse friend’s profiles, upload and share videos and photos and view forthcoming events. However, Lite had no support for popular games, such as Farmville.
So far, no official reason as of why Facebook has closed Lite, has been released. The only statement released mentions, “Thanks to everyone who tried out Facebook Lite. If you used Lite, you’ll now be taken to the main Facebook.com page.”
As I mentioned in the last post, Facebook is facing severe user disappointment on many fronts. As such, many users, especially Lite users, have expressed their discontent at the closure of this functional service. A loyal Lite user, Will Rivlin posted on the Facebook Developer wall,” I have been quite disappointed with recent updates to the site, including this one. I used Facebook Lite all the time because I have really slow internet.”
According to analysts, the Lite had to face axe because it was ‘diluting’ the real user experience. a Gartner analyst, Ray Valdes, said, “I think a lot of the Facebook experience was left out of Lite, especially the monetisable parts.”
